She is co-founder and president of the Center for Inner Work, an association
of 18 licensed psychotherapists who share a transpersonal orientation within the rigors of traditional clinical
psychotherapeutic practice. The members of Center for Inner Work group represent a variety of clinical specialties
including child and adolescent treatment, marriage and family counseling, body work, sandplay therapy, addictions
recovery, and treatment for clients with chronic illness. She, along with husband, Ward Johnson, founded the Center
for Inner Work for the specific purpose of providing a healing center which recognizes the common boundary between
spirituality and psychotherapy. They further wished to provide a place for healers t do their work in a healing
environment.
Barbara has practiced both meditation and dream work for twenty years. The world of symbols and dreams has guided
her adult life. She sees a natural integration of these disciplines with characterological therapy. Her long commitment
to these practices has led her to teach meditation and integrate contemplative practice and awareness training
with depth analysis.
Barbara Miriello also:
* Teaches dream process for groups and individuals.

* Specializes in treatment of depressive disorders and is presently researching
issues of depression and religious practice,
especially meditation. Along with
this, she focuses on the process and journey
through chronic illness. She treats
people with immunological disorders, chronic
pain, and physical disability.

* Provides individual and group treatment for professed religious, including both
eastern and western orders. This comprises
a major portion of her practice. She
has also practiced within cloistered monastic
communities for 10 years.

* Serves as supervisor for graduate students to fulfill requirements necessary to sit
for the oral and written licensure examinations.
She enjoys the mentoring
process for new therapists.

* Practices sandplay and lectures internationally on Kalffian Sandplay Process.

* Provides consultation and training for other professionals.
Barbara is co-founder of the San Diego Sandplay Association. She is a teaching member of the international society
and provides consultation and training for other professionals.
Ms. Miriello and Ward Johnson have created a videotape, "What to Expect From The First Years of Marriage,"
she and Ward do couple and relationship therapy and teach relationship skills in a small group setting.
Barbara Miriello lives with her husband and best friend of 22 years. She enjoys gardening, writing, dancing, and
poetry.
